Women In Seascape Photography

In October 2024, we created a dedicated space on Instagram for women in seascape photography, a place where those who share a passion for this specific genre could come together, share their work and connect as a community. The aim has always been simple: to encourage, support and give visibility to women who photograph the coast, creating a platform where their voices and images can be seen and valued.

We are coastal photographers, most at home on a beach or standing beside a stretch of rugged coastline. Being close to the sea is what inspires us, motivates us and keeps us heading out with our cameras, whatever the weather. The initial idea for Women in Seascape Photography came in January 2024, shortly after we relocated to the Isle of Lewis. Moving to the island was driven by two things: a desire for a better work–life balance and the hope of creating more time to focus on photography. Lewis has an incredible creative community and an unspoilt, beautiful coastline. Lewis and Harris captured our hearts quickly, the landscape, the light, the sense of space,  and it continues to inspire us every day, especially in our love of seascape photography

We wanted to create a platform to share our love of the sea & coast. Quite naturally the Isle of Lewis lends itself to “Lets encourage women in seascape.” The coast is ever changing, high tide, low tide, shifting weather, soft light or wild Atlantic swell. There’s always something to photograph, from intricate abstracts and long exposures to roaring waves or the stillness of a calm sea at sunset. That’s what makes seascape photography such an engaging and rewarding genre, and it’s why we’re so passionate about encouraging others to be part of it.
